Lt Col Andrew Tabor JP

Andrew Tabor was born into a military family, spending much of his childhood abroad and gaining a lifetime love of travelling. Having read Modern Languages (French and German) at Pembroke College, Oxford, he was commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst into 15th/19th The King’s Royal Hussars, then an Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment in Germany. This subsequently became The Light Dragoons in 1992. He undertook a variety of roles at regimental duty in England, Germany, Cyprus and Bosnia. He also served on the staff in the Ministry of Defence, the Permanent Joint Headquarters at Northwood and the Joint Services Staff College before leaving the Army in 2001.
Andrew is currently farm manager and a partner of a predominantly arable farm in the North Cotswolds, which has recently entered the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme, which seeks to improve the habitat for farmland birds. He has been a Magistrate on the Gloucestershire Bench for 13 years and helped establish a Mock Trial Competition for Primary Schools in Cheltenham, which teaches children, mainly from Year 6, about the criminal justice system and develops their confidence in public speaking. He is Chairman of his local British Legion Branch, serves on the County Committee of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and is a member of the Development Board of Gloucestershire Young Carers. He is also on the Council of The Honourable Company of Gloucestershire.
Andrew is married to Lou and they have one son, Piers, who is still at school.
During his year Andrew wishes to support organisations and charities which help young people keep out of crime and anti-social behaviour.
